Welcome Valley Boys Headline Friday, May 6
“The Welcome Valley Boys are a terrific bluegrass band that gets rave reviews whenever they perform,” said Mel Strickland, producer of the weekly Opry-style show. “They’ll help us get back in full swing after a week off due to the horrific tornadoes. These are especially hard times for so many here in town. Hopefully, the jubilee can provide people a few minutes to relax and enjoy themselves without having to spend any money.”
Last weeks show was cancelled after minor damage and power loss to the building. Power was restored on Saturday. “We were fortunate not to have significant damage,” continued Strickland. “And getting a band as good as the Welcome Valley Boys to play is a great way to start back. It’s especially notable that the band is still coming even after one of their members lost their home in the storms.” The weekly musical show is held in the Dockery Heights subdivision off of Dockery Lane. “There is no admission to the jubilee and the public is invited. It’s a casual, come-as-you-are event,” says Strickland. “And each week we give away some terrific door prizes. We do like to pass the hat to help with the band’s expenses.”
Regulars on the jubilee include Southern Gospel singer Amy McAlister, singer-songwriter Elmer Bramlett, and the Cowboy Church Band and Chorale, said Strickland.
