Lakeside, an acoustic bluegrass/country/gospel band headquartered in Madisonville, TN, will headline the free Cowboy Gospel Jubilee, Friday night at 7pm.
“Lakeside has an impressive acoustic sound that grabs the audience and pulls them along for a memorable ride,” said Will Nichols, producer of the weekly Opry-style show. “Their show is a mixture of acappella singing, acoustically arranged country gospel, and bluegrass gospel music.”
Although they are headquartered in Madisonville, the members of Lakeside travel from as far as Dalton and Tunnel Hill, GA, as well as Vonore, Helenwood and Robbins, TN, to comprise the group. Greg Blankenship plays mandolin while Randy Terry does most of the duties on the banjo. Gary Woody works the dobro and fills in on guitar and banjo while Jordan Hamby plays guitar. Jackie Cummings rounds out the group thumping the upright bass. Robert Bell coordinates logistics and sound.
“This will be the first time Lakeside headlines the Jubilee,” continued Nichols, “and we couldn’t be more excited about the evening. It’s going to be a guaranteed good time.”
The Cowboy Gospel Jubilee is held at the Cleveland Cowboy Church in the Dockery Heights community, between Blue Springs and Blackburn Roads. It features both gospel and moral secular music performed in a variety of genres.
Also appearing on the Cowboy Jubilee stage is Southern gospel singer Amy McAlister along with singer-songwriter Elmer Bramlett. “The Wild Man” Danny O’Boyle picks guitar, plays harmonica and sings. Plus, the Cowboy Church Band and Chorale always opens the show. Nichols, known as “The Gospel Gun”, is a crowd favorite and serves as host and announcer.

Spatial Effects is composed of Earl Brackin (mandolin and vocals), Tom Brown (banjo and harmonica), David Crawford (guitar and vocals), all from the North Georgia area, Betsy Blankenship (bass and vocals) of Apison, Tennessee and 2006 Tennessee State Fiddle Champion, John Boulware.
The unique musical fare of Spatial Effects sets them apart from traditional bluegrass bands. The recipe for their brand of bluegrass music includes several degrees in music, creativity, and a sometimes off the wall sense of humor.
